The typeface International Festival consists of our conventional numbers 0-9. It was commissioned to the Swedish designer Andreas Karperyd due a specific model derived from the Swedish traditional theatre, a bourgeoisie yet intimate theatre circulating around the family as trope and capitalism as topography. The typeface was created from the buttons of the enter code to the stage entrance of the Royal Dramatic Theatre in Stockholm. Buttons that the most celebrated actors of Sweden has touched, punched and in anger abused. Actors are supposed to have temper.

In August 2005 International Festival was contacted by the Norwegian theatre magazine 3T, which editor asked for an insert, a contribution to the magazine due respective artist’s way of working.

International Festival decided to focus on the least content full component of magazine in general, something which is not content as text, but nor as material, and especially not as expression such as advertisement or activism. International Festival instead asked what is the most generic of or in a magazine. What is the always there that we rarely think about. Something that is there only to have no content.
International Festival stumbled on the page numbers. They are there to function but not mean anything.

A second issue relates to how International Festival take an interest in the performance of a given. What is the performance of a magazine related to reading, circulation, knowledge, gender, economy, class and so on? In order to make some things of this rather complex performance visible International Festival argued that if the typeface of a magazine is created through certain intentions, and through an anecdote that relates to performance or enactment (it is also announced in the conventional sense in the magazine) magazine, for the curious reader, will become visible as performance. As ‘pure’ performance without any, or very little, further content than the very performance of the amount of paper you in front of you.

Here you can download the typeface, use it for personal documents and hopefully publish your magazine with it.
The typeface is for free and it is the desire of International Festival that you and your friends use it as much as possible. And from now on we can be certain that you don’t forget to check how the page number looks and what you perform flapping through the pages.

3T will be published in October 2005. International Festival thanks 3T for their cool attitude and look forward to further issues and page numbers.

Please do contact International Festival if you use the typeface for largescale publications.

Download the two files and double click the otf file. Conventionally the file will find its way automatically, but if you have troubles follow your systems set up.
